Mapping the Academic Library of the Future - a SCONUL commissioned project

This survey forms part of a research project commissioned by SCONUL (the Society of College, National and University Libraries) which investigates the future academic library for the next 10 to 15 years, in the context of the decline in importance of the printed book and its repercussions for use of library space, development of services, and deployment of staff.

Who will be participating?

We are inviting participation from library staff based in UK HE institutions.

What will you be asked to do?

We are asking you to complete an online questionnaire relating to the future development of libraries, based on findings from the literature and earlier expert interviews. It will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

What are the potential risks of participating?

The risks of participating are the same as those experienced in everyday life.

What data will we collect?

We are only collecting your responses to the survey questions. No other data will be recorded.

What will we do with the data?

Survey data will be collected using the LimeSurvey system. Data will be will be stored on password-protected machines of project team members for the purposes of analysis and in secure University of Sheffield research data storage systems. Data from the survey will be shared in anonymized form on data sharing sites e.g. FigShare.
Data will be kept for possible future research for up to 5 years and will then be destroyed.

Will my participation be confidential?

Information reported regarding the survey will not be attributable to either individuals or organisations.

What will happen to the results of the research project?

The results of this research will be published in an executive report for SCONUL, conference and journal papers, and other outputs.
